As the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service considers taking the Bald Eagle off the endangered species list before a June 29 deadline, I wanted to share an image that engages with a sense of irony, beauty and awe that is unique to the Pacific Northwest.

24 MAR 1967: UCLA center Lew Alcindor "Kareem Abdul-Jubbar" (33) and Houston center/forward Elvin Hayes (44) during the NCAA Men's National Basketball Final Four semifinal game held in Louisville, KY, at Freedom Hall. Also pictured UCLA forward/guard Bill Sweek (45), guard Allen Lucius (42), and guard Mike Warren (44) and Houston forward Leary Lentz (30). UCLA defeated Houston 73-58 to meet Dayton in the championship game. Alcindor was named MVP for the tournament.

With March Madness over for this year over I thought a look at some great historical images from prior NCAA Men's Basketball tournaments is in order.

Ever since I first saw Paul Newman in the movie "The Sting" I knew that he was going to be my husband. Well that didn't work out so well for me (unless you count having his salad dressing in my home as an adequate substitution) but looking at these images of him taken back in the day remind me why of why that first celebrity crush of mine was so powerful.

It seems that I can't pick up a news magazine these days without seeing a story about China. I'm fascinated by the culture and the explosive growth occurring there and the Marketplace Image collection has some amazing news images of China. I've created a light box to share some of my favorite pictures with you.

The first ever official match at the new £800 million (Pounds Sterling) Wembley Stadium in London. Years behind schedule and costing more than double the estimates, the world's most expensive stadium, and the home of football, was baptised by tomorrow's football stars on March 24, 2007. England U21 v Italy U21 played in an International friendly soccer game, which resulted in a 3-3 draw. A restriction on numbers meant that 55,700 came to watch the two sides in the 90,000 seater venue. The Police stagger the tens of thousands of fans making their way to Wembley Park tube station after the game.

I was shoe shopping over the weekend and tried on the cutest pair of polka dotted sandals. As I was trying to decide if they were the perfect summer shoe for me, the sales person leaned over and stage whispered "Polka Dots are the new Black.".

Bruno Stevens took this image in Gulu, Northern Uganda, June 2005 at the 'Noah's Ark Shelter'.
Every night, thousands children leave their homes in the refugee camps for fear of being abducted by the LRA rebels and walk to various shelters to find security. More than 1 500 000 people have been displaced to IDP camps and are living in dreadful conditions for the last 19 years.
