Recently recognized as ICP's 2007 Photojournalist of The Year, Digital Railroad member Anthony Suau is renowned for his in depth coverage of world events. Anthony has just relocated from his long time base in Paris to New York and shared these comments about Digital Railroad:

"I am now earning 3 to 4 times more (a month) representing my images on DRR then I ever did at Getty. In addition with nearly 6,000 images now on my archive site, my work is finally represented exactly as I want it to be. Most importantly, it seems to be exactly what clients want, too.

For the few years Getty represented my archive the edits, scans, keywords, and caption were never in my control. An unknown editor dictated to me her edits, demanded captions be done THEIR way and-- I don't know who made the scans in the early days--but they were just out right awful. Sales were decent, but never great.

Two years ago I joined DRR and began making my own edits, and scanning my archive with an Imacon 848 using a highly calibrated screen to control the image color and densities. I now write my captions and keywords with the simplicity and accuracy that clients demand. In return I have a clean and sophisticated presentation on DRR and a much greater income.

In the past 9 months sales requests have come in so fast I can barely keep up with the demand. DRR has now become a fundamental tool of my profession. From idea, to camera, to computer, to DRR, to income - the circle is finally complete and I am in control of my work from conception to publication."

An enduring presence in American nature photography for the past twenty years, George Ward's images have been widely featured in national publications, including many appearances in the Sierra Club and Audubon Society calendars. Magazine credits include Sierra, Newsweek, Outside, Backpacker, Outdoor Photographer and Nature's Best. His work has also appeared in numerous books showcasing the natural history of the West, and his art prints are part of many private and corporate collections.

George’s intention with his photography, is to stylistically, but faithfully, interpret the wonder of the natural world. No digital compositing is ever done, by adding to or subtracting from, the reality that nature revealed to the camera. In the field, filters are rarely used, and only then to compensate for the limitations of film to record certain high-contrast situations, or to reduce glare.
