"IT HELPS TO HAVE A ZEST FOR LIFE IN THIS BUSINESS! Many of the exciting things I've photographed, I've also done. Such as, running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain; jumping off the highest bungee jump in the world in Queenstown, New Zealand; ski mountaineering the 'Haute Route' in the Alps; hiking the Milford Track in New Zealand and the Tour du Mont Blanc in Europe; plunging in the icy water with the Polar Bear Club on New Year's Day in Boulder, Colorado; scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and off Cozumel in Mexico. I've photographed everything from icebreakers in Arctic Finland to Turkish Baths in Istanbul to stock exchanges in Singapore and Hong Kong to tango dancing in Buenos Aires. My goal for life: go everywhere, meet everyone, try everything!"

We're delighted to have Blaine bring his adventurous spirit to DRR. To experience more of Blaine's work visit his archive.

Encapsulating the present moment of our culture and the worldwide phenomenon of celebrity fixation, “Paparazzi As An Art Form” profiles the evolution of pop culture imagery and showcases the modern-day icons in a historical context, including enticing images of Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.

“The Buzz Foto collection clearly illustrates that paparazzi photography can be a form of art. Executed properly, images of today’s celebrities can exude an incredible amount of style and elegance that portray our ever-changing and exciting pop culture. Photos such as these are destined to one day grace the walls of major museums and galleries,” said Brad Elterman, Buzz Foto co-founder who sold his first celebrity photo in 1974. “Consider Henri Cartier-Bresson, Walker Evans and Helen Levitt; each took photos of individuals without permission and set out to sell them. Their iconic photographs imitate the paparazzi style and today hang in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Our Buzz Foto photographs have the potential to hang next to those great masters.”

Henry Flores, co-owner for Buzz Foto and a former engineer, said, “We’re pleased to host a first-ever gallery showing of paparazzi art. All of our photographers maintain an excellent working rapport with the celebrity community, so we’re certain they’ll come out to see their photos.”

Buzz Foto was founded by Elterman and Flores in 2006. Elterman is a thirty-year industry veteran who sold his prior celebrity photo agency, Online USA, Inc., to Getty Images in 2000.

"After 20 years of trekking the globe I still travel with an open mind, never sure what I’ll run into. Just when I think I’m on the wrong trip (again), some wonderful surprise opens up a whole new adventure.

Such was the case this October when I wandered through rural China alone with a young Chinese guide. In the shadow of the Himalayas, just south of Tibet, we happened upon a traditional Bai village so remote that it had never seen a Western visitor. The people didn’t speak Mandarin, only their local dialect. Even my guide had difficulty communicating with them. Quickly we all opted for partying over words.

As luck would have it, the village was holding a temple festival in honor of the Chinese national holiday. After the Village Head Man and his wife presented me with a Moon Cake, all the women took turns singing and performing traditional dances for me, their only spectator. I was invited to stay for lunch, dinner and the night. I could have moved right in!"
